Simone Leigh (born in 1967) is an American artist whose work encompasses sculpture, installations and video. She is widely recognized for her exploration of the Black female experience, both historically and in contemporary society. Drawing inspiration from African art, feminist discourse, and personal narratives, Leigh's pieces often combine the human form with architectural elements. A common motif in her work is the blending of the female body with various vessels, referencing the idea of containment and the multifaceted roles of women.
